Nine weeks, about 45 minutes a day. Capable finds the topics costing them marks, makes this year's work solid, and starts next year's before school opens. Every answer is marked at once, and every lost mark gets a class on the board.

Their holiday, week by week

  1. Weeks 1–2Find the gapsA few real exam questions show where the marks go. The heaviest gaps from earlier years are fixed first.
  2. Weeks 3–6Master this yearThis year's topics, made solid while they're fresh: marked at once, and taught on the board when they slip.
  3. Weeks 7–8Get a head startThe first topics of next year, learnt before January.
  4. Week 9Walk in readyPull it all together and start the new year ready.

Each day is a topic test, with a full paper at weekends. For Form 3, Grade 9 and Grade 10; younger children get five questions a day.
